When an HP laptop will not boot, count the complete repeating pattern rather than only the first few flashes.
How to record the code
Note which light flashes, the number of long and short flashes, any colour change, pauses and whether the fan starts. A short video is extremely helpful.
What codes can indicate
Depending on the model, patterns may point toward memory, BIOS, CPU, graphics, power or system-board problems. They are diagnostic clues rather than guaranteed proof of a failed part.
Avoid repeated forced starts
If important data is involved or the laptop shows signs of liquid damage, burning smell or unusual heat, stop repeated testing and arrange assessment.
